Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy, case study

In 2019 the following case study was distributed to ECAT participants:

A 40 year old man had a car accident on a late Friday night. He was the only person in the car. He was brought to the trauma center in your hospital. This patient was not known in your hospital. His family could not be reached on this Friday evening. There was no information about a medical history or the use of medication in his pocket.

Due to a severe head trauma he is intubated and ventilated. In this emergency situation you obtain a citrated blood sample. The trauma physician wants to know the plasmatic coagulation status of the patient.

Please, perform basic coagulation screening tests. In the case of an abnormality perform reflective testing to the outcome of the performed tests.

In the case there is an abnormality give a potential diagnosis for the patient mentioned above.

The sample used in this case study survey was from a Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy (TIC) patient.
