Coumarin

Pharmacological agent that serves as an anticoagulant by inhibiting the hepatic synthesis of four vitamin K-dependent procoagulant proteins (FIIFVIIFIXFX). The most common coumarins (or derivatives) in use are warfarin sodium, acenocoumarol, and phenprocoumon. Coumarins are routinely used in the clinical management of thrombosis and are monitored by the PT (INR) test.
