In 2015 the following case study was distributed to ECAT participants:
A 20-year old patient is admitted to the trauma center. He is ventilated due to a severe thorax and upper extremities trauma. There are signs of bleeding (large thoracal and upper extremity hematoma) but no active bleeding at trauma or punction sites.
Friends of the casualty report a hereditary bleeding disorder of the patient. The patient received first clinical treatment including Tranexamic Acid.
A blood sample was sent to the laboratory after a POCT test for APTT. Test result: 44 sec. (reference range: 25 – 39 sec.).
The sample used in this case study survey was from a patient with haemophilia B and treated with BeneFIX.
