In 2023 the following case study was distributed to ECAT participants:
A 62 years old woman suffers from extensive hematoma and gum bruising since more than 3 months. Investigations of blood smear and age and gender specific work up by a general practitioner (GP) were not heplful.
She received regular dose DOAC for atrial fibrilation since one and a half year, which has been considered as explanation for her bleeding symptoms. The GP changed to reduced dose, but there was no influence on bleeding symptoms until now.
She reports a hospital stay for many weeks after a severe car accident (more than 10 yeras ago) and remembers to have received many infusions and blood transfusion .
Now she finally arrived at a hematologist, reporting her symptoms and showing her normal blood smear results. Due to continuously increasing bleeding symptoms she stopped taking DOAC.
The sample used in this case study survey was from a patient diagnosed for acquired Haemophilia A. The Factor VIII inhibitor titre is approx. 2.5 BU/mL
